Adventure Races aren't for suckers!

Friday night, the family crew headed down to Picnic Island to compete in an adventure race. Before we arrived, I was a little bummed that I'm not able to participate in said activities just yet and found myself thinking of next years races. Ha! Well after watching this race, I've realized I definitely want to compete in next year's series of races but it's going to be a challenge and I might come in last!

Here's the boys at the start of the race: Joe, Ryan, David and our friend Saul. If you look closely enough you can see David's race number and the reason for his new 'El Diablo' nickname.

This was my favorite obstacle to watch the contestants struggle through. Some just slid right under the net, like Joe did here. What a champ! But a few people got hung up and backed up the line to get through this part of the course.. actually everyone from our group did really well at this obstacle.

Here's Ryan strolling through the water towards the end of the course. He looks a little tired here for a good reason. Ryan decided to compete in this race but at first thought he wouldn't. His reasoning for taking a pass on this race was that he hasn't run at all in over a month! But, he still did pretty darn good!

David and Ryan finished in the top 60 and got a sweet glass for their efforts.

Family photo! I think Jona is rooting around for a feeding time here... the girl likes to eat!

Can the kid get any cuter?!

Jona and her daddy :)

Here's a photo opp of Jona and Finley meeting for the first time. They look so excited to meet eachother!

Well until next time..

Hi!

Hello everyone, its Jona! Things have returned to our normal routine since my Gramms and Gramps have returned home. My mom keeps saying she misses having them around to keep her company while dad is at work and I think Gramps helped her out a lot with projects around the house. The picture above is me trying on my life vest in hopes of going on the boat! However, last weekend I ended up falling asleep in my car seat and got left on the dock with Mama Smith when everyone went out. Sneaky! My daddy keeps promising me that this weekend it will finally happen.

Here's a picture of me and mom. She keeps taking pictures of everyone else with me that she keeps forgetting to get a mom and daughter shot. So finally, Gramms took one for us. Thanks Gramms!

My mom keeps telling me this weekend that I'm gonna meet baby Finley. I'm not too sure what a Finley is but mom seems pretty excited about it so it must be something fun. Also, I'm going to see my daddy run an adventure race on Friday with my Papa Joe and Uncle David at Picnic Island. I've been told that it wont be too long before I run a race.. haha, right.

Well, mom and I are off to run some errands and then getting sushi tonight for dinner... yumm! I'm looking forward to dad getting home in the morning. I love my tummy time with him! Then its time to see my Aunt Dani, Uncle David, and Cori. I'll let you know what I figure out about this Finley thing! Bye for now.

Jona Lily's Newborn Photos!

These are the beautiful newborn photos Rebecca took of Jona at Beach Week. We love them! Rebecca got up two mornings before 6:30 to take these photos for us (although the first morning, Ryan and I slept through our alarm...whoops!) Thanks Rebecca for still getting up the second morning after we were more rested :) Did I mention how much we love the photos?!

Hello July 7th!

My, my. As promised, time has flown by! A month has come and gone and Jona has been with us now for a whole month, it almost seems impossible. Yet, as I ponder upon the little moments living happily in my memory, I realize a lot has happened in the first few weeks of her life that has filled this first month of her life so quickly. There have been quite a few big events. Birth, meeting her family members for the first time, her first shots, her first bath. The list could go on and on. But I think the best moments are the unexpected treasures that stick in my mind. The little moments I would expect to just be mundane, routine minutes that fill up the day yet these are the moments my mind circles back over time and again. I love the sweet wrinkles that fold up her forehead and her arching back as she tries to wake up in the morning, the fussiness that we can't resolve until she is lying on her daddy's chest, or the hilarious noises she makes as she serves us up a dirty diaper. How can a newborn make such a loud noise?!

This morning my mom and I took Jona to her one month check up. The pediatrician was very happy with her weight gain and growth. She's a healthy girl!
At birth... One month....
Weight: 7.8 Weight: 9.2
Head: 13 inches Head: 14.5 inches
Length: 20 inches Length: 21.5 inches

Although I'm a little sad that she will grow so quickly, I also find some solace in the fact that as she grows, there is also so much to look forward to. I can't tell you how excited Ryan is to take his little girl paddle boarding or how much I'm looking forward to her learning to crawl. So as time marches on, we carry with us a few lessoned learned from the first month of being parents. These lessons I share with you:
1. As cold air reaches Jona's butt during a diaper change, prepare for a flood!
2. A bottle of breast milk may only look like a bottle of milk, however, its also four ounces of sanity for mommy!
3. If Ryan is sleeping on the couch these days, its not because he's in the dog house. Sleepless nights at the station, nursing school and Jona have proven to have taken a toll on his restful nights.
4. Help from family and friends is worth its weight in gold!

Love to all our fellow bloggers out there and until next time...
